About Communication

What does communication mean? Communication is equal parts expressing your own view and listening to those of others.  It is about learning how to make yourself understood to your audience, taking into account their own background and abilities.  Communication is about language--both verbal and non-verbal--but it is also about understanding those with whom you are trying to communicate and adjusting your communication strategies based on that understanding.

As a first-year Japanese language student, effective communication also requires preparation.  The more we practice the things we want to say, the more effectively we will be able to express our ideas.

From this podcast project I hope to learn how to communicate effectively despite not being totally comfortable speaking Japanese.  I hope to learn how to express my ideas in a clear and effective manner even though I don't always have a complete grasp on the necessary vocabulary or grammar.  I also hope to learn how to collaborate with other first-year Japanese language students to pool our knowledge, and perhaps offset our weaknesses, in order to produce a podcast of a higher quality and language level than we would have been able to produce had we worked as individuals.
